TOURING THE OREGON COAST
Valkyries, an ocean breeze and fresh seafood
Setting out to do it right, the four of us--two on Harleys and two on Honda Valkyries-- rode the full length of Oregon's Highway 101, which parallels the Pacific Coast. Our starting point was the four-mile-long Astoria Bridge, which spans the Columbia River's entry into the Pacific, separating Oregon from Washington state. We descended down the span exiting Washington state and skimmed across the water only a few feet above the waves. Nearing the entry point into Oregon we opened the throttle , and climbed 200 feet, rising over the peak of the bridge and descending into the town of Astoria, the beginning of a beautiful 400-mile ride...

THE ARID JOURNEY
Motorcycling is about the trip--not the destination. I still find it amazing how many people (including spouses) do not understand this basic tenent.
This year our loose riding group completed it's seventh trip to attend the annual Valkyrie Owners Association (VOA) meeting in Crawford, Colorado. On the way, we had a chance to tour Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks in Utah....

Riding The Lewis and Clark Trail
Honda Valkyrie Tourer and BMW K100
Rain falling constantly? Even in 1806 Oregon was developing a reputation as a wet place. However, in the summer months it's a great place to ride, and now you can stop at restuarants instead of shooting elk for your meal as you retrace part of the route of Lewis and Clark.

The Honda Valkyrie Rider

The Honda Valkyrie Rider is easily recognized by a physical condition known among Valkyrie Riders as, "The Grin." Just mention Motorcycles and wait for the tell-tale Grin to appear. "The Grin", it's always there, lurking just beneath his cool public persona. The mere thought of "riding" is enough to bring it to the surface. Talk of motorcycles invariably, almost involuntarily, induces "The Grin", coupled with a twinkle in the eyes that hints of memories of adventures past and dreams of rides yet future.
While this condition is not fatal, with current technology, it does appear to be incurable.
To learn more about this unusual malady, and it's treatment, visit the...

VALKYRIES IN THE MIST
Valkyries, Volcanoes and Valhalla
Saturday, June 21: The Summer Solstice. The first day of summer and it was a typical Oregon June day: rainy. Ordinarily the inclement weather would be an excuse to avoid my mounting list of homeowner projects and perhaps just stretch out on the couch to watch sports reruns on ESPN. However, for some reason it sounded good to take a ride today despite the on-and-off-again rain. When my buddy Eric called me that morning with the same idea and wanted to know if I was interested in joining him for a spin, I seized the opportunity. Little did either of us know what a strange trip lay ahead....
