   In our search for the best cruiser on earth, we travel 12,000 miles on eight bikes, in three days.
   "SEND US THE BEST, COOLEST MOTORCYCLE YOU'VE GOT."
   That was the request Motorcycle Cruiser conveyed to the eight major makers of big street bikes that count cruisers among their models. "We want your flagship cruiser." we told them. There were some conditions. We wanted unmitigated cruisers, not touring cruisers. That meant no Harley Road Kings or Kawasaki Nomads. For some manufacturers, the choice was clear. BMW only makes one cruiser model, the R1200C. Nor was there any doubt about which model Moto Guzi would send. The V11 EV is the Italian maker's solitary cruiser. Suzuki's new 1500 Intruder LC was it's obvious choice, and that's what it selected. Kawasaki's choice was also clear-cut; it sent the Vulcan 1500 Classic. We wondered whether Honda would choose the beautifully crafted 1100 Aero V-twin or the big six-cylinder Valkyrie. We got the six....

The Honda Valkyrie..... Links
   Affectionately known as "The Dragon" among Valkyrie riders. Why a "Dragon" is still very much a subject of debate within the Valkyrie community, but I suspect that it has at least something to do with some stats about the Valkyrie that I've read....
104hp, 100ft/lbs of torque, 0-60 in less than 4 seconds. Will smoke almost anything on the road. So don't tickle the dragon, you just might get burned. lol    
(Honda would never officially give a hp rating for the Valkyrie, only saying "more than a hundred". The 104hp rating is from one of the magazines on this site)
   Another prevailing theory has to do with Viking lore. Yes, there are dragons in Viking mythology. 
   I prefer my theory. lol

TOURING THE OREGON COAST
Valkyries, an ocean breeze and fresh seafood
   Setting out to do it right, the four of us--two on Harleys and two on Honda Valkyries-- rode the full length of Oregon's Highway 101, which parallels the Pacific Coast. Our starting point was the four-mile-long Astoria Bridge, which spans the Columbia River's entry into the Pacific, separating Oregon from Washington state. We descended down the span exiting Washington state and skimmed across the water only a few feet above the waves. Nearing the entry point into Oregon we opened the throttle , and climbed 200 feet, rising over the peak of the bridge and descending into the town of Astoria, the beginning of a beautiful 400-mile ride...

THE ARID JOURNEY

   This year our loose riding group completed it's seventh trip to attend the annual Valkyrie Owners Association (VOA) meeting in Crawford, Colorado. On the way, we had a chance to tour Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks in Utah....
